Office gear

My office is located in a small town in Southwest-Germany with good technical infrastructure – important services such as my internet connection are covered by business level arrangements regarding repair times and quality of service.

My bandwidth is currently 25 MBit/s when downloading and 5 MBit/s upstream via permanent VDSL connection. A UPS device backs up the power supply for my computer hardware in case of an outage to avoid uncontrolled shut-down.

To reduce noise and load times, my computer uses an SSD main drive – it also has 16 GB of RAM which I need for running virtual machines and displays 1920 x 1200 pixels on an ergonomic 24" LCD panel to reduce eye strain. I use a second, tilted display for reference material/emails.

Most of my data are stored on a network attached storage device in RAID 1 configuration, backed-up from time to time to a separate external drive.
